Miss Phillips' Maths Class

What have we been learning?

We have been working really hard in maths this term!

So far we have practised to read and write numbers up to 30 and then up to 100 correctly.

We have been counting up in 2s, 5s and 10s!

We have been counting forwards and backwards to 30 in 1s.

The children have been playing dominos and hide the number to wake up their maths brains.

We have been singing 'Alice the Camel' 'Five little ducks' 'Speckled frogs' and 'Ten green bottles' - we have loved singing the number songs!

Then this week we have been learning about the place value of numbers. The children have been partitioning (splitting) numbers into tens and ones. We firstly did it with numicon, then with dienes and then just in our heads! I have uploaded an example of how we record place value.

Over the next 2 weeks we will continue to develop our understanding of place value and begin to solve problems using this knowledge.

How can you help at home?

Read and write numbers up to 100 whenever you can - use chalks, paints, squirty water bottles!

Sing counting songs together.

Say a 2 digit number and see if they can say the tens and ones ... For eg: 37 = 3 tens and 7 ones. We usually play this in a throwing game - if the child catches the ball I say a number and they partition it.
